Two drivers have been arrested in relation to a car crash that happened on Feb. 13 in Colorado Springs. According to reports, the accident occurred around 10 p.m. at the intersection of East Bijou Street and South Circle Drive. Three cars were involved in the crash. According to police, a blue Hyundai Elantra was going south on South Circle Drive. As the Elantra turned onto East Fountain Boulevard, it crashed into a Subaru Outback. A third car was hit by the Subaru as a result of the initial crash.
Both the Elantra and the Outback sustained serious damage, and the third vehicle that had been stopped at the traffic light incurred moderate damage. The two drivers involved in the initial crash received serious injuries as result of the crash but were expected to live, according to reports. The driver of the third vehicle was apparently uninjured.
The Subaru’s driver is being charged with driving under the influence of drugs. The driver of the Hyundai is facing charges of driving under the influence, vehicular assault and careless driving as a result of the police investigation.
While it wasn’t immediately clear what kind of drugs or other influences the two drivers were under, charges of driving under the influence can result in a restricted or revoked license and other serious penalties. Factors like the drivers’ blood-alcohol levels, any evidence of intoxication, previous offenses or any substances found during a search of the vehicle can make a significant difference in the criminal defense strategy used in these types of cases.
