About 100 miles west of Colorado Springs sits Salida, Colorado, a small town known for its skiing and whitewater rafting. That’s where a 28-year-old woman had moved to after quitting her teaching job last fall in Florida when she was told she might face charges of sex crimes involving a student.
The former Osceola County teacher has been charged now with having sex with a 16-year-old male student and sending explicit photos to him, police announced last week.
According to police in Kissimmee, Florida, officials said they were informed last October that the teacher might be involved in a sexual relationship with an Osceola High School student.
The teen denied the allegations. When police investigators tried to contact the teacher, she reportedly quit her job and moved to Salida.
Last month, however, the teenager reportedly told law enforcement officials about a physical relationship with the teacher. Police say the teenager also told them he’d received graphic photos from the teacher recently.
According to a Kissimmee police officer, the teacher “was having sex with one of her students when she was working.”
Investigators allege that a 16-year-old student was excused from a class he was in with a different teacher when the suspect called and said he’d left something behind in her classroom. When the student went to the 28-year-old’s classroom, she allegedly touched him, took him to a closet, removed his clothes and engaged in sex with him.
After her arrest in Salida, she was extradited to Florida. Bail was set at $85,000.
