Alleged trafficking ring results in 32 arrests

An alleged marijuana-trafficking ring resulted in 32 individuals arrested. This would be the largest number of arrests involving any purported ring in Colorado since legalization of marijuana in our state.

Those arrested supposedly laundered millions of dollars in an interstate operation. It's claimed that co-conspirators described themselves as medical marijuana patient caregivers, marijuana cooperatives, marijuana property managers and small business owners. The Colorado Attorney General described this as being evidence of a black market. "Illegal drug dealers are simply hiding in plain sight, attempting to use the legalized market as a cover."

The investigation into this matter, described as massive, involved federal, state and local law enforcement resources. Reportedly authorities seized 4,600 pounds of marijuana, 10 pounds of hash oil, close to 2,000 marijuana plants and around $1.4 million in cash in October 2014. There were 52 felony charges brought against those arrested. This includes alleged violations of illegal marijuana distribution, tax evasion, money laundering, attempts to influence public servants and violations of the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act.

Without question, drug trafficking charges potentially bring with them severe criminal penalties. Convictions result in extended prison sentences and large fines. As this matter demonstrates, significant amounts of property also are subject to seizure.

Those arrested require the best services available from criminal defense attorneys. This is especially true when authorities bring federal conspiracy charges and many individuals face similar charges - regardless of actual involvement of particular people arrested. Everyone arrested is entitled to a fair trial and the right to have their own criminal defense representation.
