Years after Colorado sex sting, man charged with child porn possession

The investigation began a little more than 40 miles southwest of Colorado Springs, in Cañon City. That's where four years ago, a man was arrested after he had flown to Colorado to have sex he believed he had arranged with a 28-year-old mother and her nine-year-old daughter.

The mother and daughter were fictitious creations of police investigators, however.

The man was originally charged with five felony counts in the October 2007 arrest. He pleaded guilty several months later to two of the felonies: attempted sexual assault of a child younger than 15 and internet luring of a child with intent to exploit.

Evidence seized in that investigation has in recent days led to his arrest on charges of possession of child pornography.

The man lives in Connecticut, where members of that state's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force arrested him on charges of criminal attempt to impair the morals of a child and third-degree possession of child porn.

Law enforcement investigators say they found 15 photos and eight videos of child pornography on the computers seized in the 2007 investigation.

In that investigation, Cañon City detectives deployed an undercover officer to pretend to be a young mother with a young daughter. Police said the man indicated at the time that he wanted to have sex with the mother and daughter when he visited the city known for its whitewater rafting, rock climbing and proliferation of state and federal prisons.

Clearly, the man faces the real possibility of lengthy incarceration after his previous conviction. As part of his plea agreement then, he received intensive supervised probation rather than prison.
