Colorado man arrested for DUI and impersonating an officer

In situations where a person is accused of drunk driving, there are often additional charges made depending on the incidents surrounding the arrest. One 40-year-old man from Colorado Springs was arrested on April 20 on suspicion of impersonating a police officer, driving under the influence and obstructing a peace officer. According to reports, police responded to a call around 10:30 p.m. in the 1900 block of E. Bijou Street. The caller claimed that someone was in the neighborhood identifying himself as an officer.

When authorities arrived on the scene, they reportedly saw the man behind the wheel of the vehicle, driving away. Police stopped the car but reported that the 40-year-old allegedly physically resisted arrest and was confrontational with the officers. An officer apparently used a stun gun on the man during the arrest.

An investigation into the events prior to the arrest indicate that the man was allegedly driving in circles in the neighborhood, leading residents to believe that he was preparing to commit a crime. According to reports, the 40-year-old told two residents trying to get a picture of the man that he was a member of the police force and accused them of interfering with an investigation.

The man was taken to El Paso County jail and was scheduled to be officially charged on April 22, according to court records. It was not clear from reports what exactly led to the DUI suspicion or whether officers administered a field sobriety test, but if the man is charged with driving under the influence, whether or not he had been drinking prior to the incident and how that impacted his alleged other actions could be of interest to the defense.
