Two from Colorado charged with stealing from murder scene

Two Colorado people are in custody on accusations of credit card theft. The pair are charged with taking items from a murder-suicide scene.

The Colorado couple was picked up in Washington state, according to investigators.

Police arrested a 29-year-old male and a 35-year-old female in Spokane Valley, Washington, on Christmas Eve. Each remained in custody until the following morning.

Both suspects are from Craig, Colorado, which is about 270 miles northwest of Colorado Springs.

According to a sheriff's report, both were found in a hotel room.

The original Grand County Sheriff's report indicates a father and his 9-year-old son were found dead in Grand County. Officers believe the father shot and killed his son prior to killing himself.

Investigators say they believe the man and woman arrested stole a wallet from the scene, as well as credit cards, a cellphone, pistol and gasoline.

According to police reports, the bodies were frozen inside a van when the man and woman arrived on the scene.

Surveillance photos, as well as tracking of the dead man's credit cards led to the arrest of the two, according to investigator's reports.

The car the pair had been driving was apparently recovered in Cheyenne, Wyoming, according to police reports.

Denver police also say they had been summoned to an attempted burglary at the dead man's home after a neighbor called, saying people were looking into his home around noon.

After officers arrived, they say they found no signs of forced entry and that the pair of suspects had left the home.

Police say the attempted robbery is not apparently connected to the deaths.
