Man, two juveniles charged in Colorado Springs robbery

Two teenagers and a 20-year-old man face multiple charges in connection with a Colorado Springs robbery where two elderly people were injured.

The boys, ages 16 and 15, are charged with juvenile offenses including aggravated robbery, first-degree assault on an at-risk adult, first-degree burglary, conspiracy and felony theft. They're being held at the Spring Creek Youth Detention Center.

The man is facing the same charges as an adult. He's in El Paso County jail with a $200,000 bond.

Colorado Springs police officers allege the trio invaded an elderly couple's home in late October. The man and the boys learned that the couple owned a valuable gun collection and planned to steal it, police say.

The attack sent the couple to the hospital.

The 70-year-old woman had head injuries and remained in the intensive care unit for several days. Her 76-year-old husband had a concussion. He was treated and released the day of the attack.

According to the police report, the 20-year-old man and the two boys kicked in the couple's front door shortly after 6 a.m. on Oct. 28. They initially asked the woman to let them into the house, but she refused.

Police say one of the intruders beat the woman, who screamed for her husband to call 911. The elderly man was successful in placing the call before the intruders reached him and began striking him with a gun.

Police records indicate the intruders nabbed the couple's gun collection before fleeing their home. Officers have found one of the guns and are still searching for the others. The couple could not tell the police exactly how many guns they owned.

Parents who have kids facing serious criminal charges should contact a Colorado Springs attorney with experience protecting the rights of children and their families.
