Colorado Springs cop arrested on child porn suspicion

Sometimes even some of the most unlikely of people end up in trouble with the law. Such is the case for a Colorado Springs police officer who was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of possessing child pornography.

Allegedly the officer, who is a school resource officer at Horace Mann Middle School in Colorado Springs, also recently had an internal complaint filed against him for pulling up his shirt to display a gun at a middle school sporting event.

Police told local reporters that it is still very early on in the investigation, but they did say that the complaint from the sporting event incident was made by a parent. However, police did not specify the date of the incident or any other details.

"We are still going through evidence. We are still determining what has happened overall," a spokesperson for the police department said.

It was also revealed yesterday that the child pornography allegations involve only photographs, and that there has been no evidence that the officer acted improperly with children at Horace Mann Middle School.

The officer has been an active member in the community and served as a coach in the Police Athletic League and a youth adviser in a program offered by the police department in which teenagers and young adults wear police uniforms and job shadow officers.

The Colorado Springs Gazette reported that the officer had been with the department for seven years. The officer has been freed from jail on $3,000 bail and has now been placed on indefinite administrative leave by the police department.

In Colorado, sex crimes, especially those involving children, carry some of the harshest punishments available. In recent times, law enforcement has also been cracking down on people who purchase and possess child pornography. Being accused of crimes of this nurture can be a very tumultuous experience, and can impact a person's life forever.
